The intellectual contributions of Hussite thinkers, the profound transformations of society, and innovations in writing and music have often faded from view. Yet over the past twenty-five years, scholarly research has produced new findings and interpretations that demonstrate both the close interconnectedness of fifteenth-century Bohemian history with developments in contemporary Europe and the distinctive impulses through which Hussitism transcended its own time.
The volume The Hussite Century synthesises the results of this research and presents, in four sections, a balanced portrayal of the period, free from ideological preconceptions. Framed by a historical overview of the revolutionary era and the post-Compactata period, the book includes sections devoted to social history and power structures in the lands of the Bohemian Crown, as well as to cultural and spiritual developments.
