This volume offers the most comprehensive account to date of the emergence and rule of the Přemyslid princely and royal dynasty in the Bohemian lands, from the ninth century to its extinction at the beginning of the fourteenth century, including the historical circumstances that prefigured the formation of the Bohemian state. The book further provides a detailed, multidisciplinary analysis of the development of the Bohemian polity and its continuation in the period immediately following the demise of the founding dynasty. It also examines the symbolic significance of the Přemyslids for the interpretation of Czech history as a whole.
