This edited volume is published in honour of the 70th birthday of the leading Czech historian Prof. PhDr. František Šmahel, DrSc. The book comprises twenty-nine studies authored by representatives of the youngest generation of scholars, including Šmahel’s doctoral students, early-career collaborators, and other historians who have sought scholarly guidance from this internationally renowned medievalist.
In addition to the titular section, the volume is organised into several thematic groups: Ruler, Power, and Justice; Church and Religion; Medieval Nobility—Structure, Representation, and Personalities; and Learning and the Imagination of the Middle Ages. Alongside the individual studies, the book also includes a complete bibliography of František Šmahel’s works published between 1995 and 2004.
